About the writer and this site
I was eight years old when my family got its first computer, which instantly gave my writing a sense of legitimacy. I awoke at hours I now find ungodly to write recaps of entire New York Yankees seasons (yes, the Yankees — their seasons were typically more interesting, or at least longer, than my beloved Mets’).
Now I am a full-time sportswriter for MLive Media Group, which operates local newspapers and websites all over Michigan, including The Ann Arbor News. I am a beat writer for the University of Michigan men’s basketball and football teams, but I cover women’s basketball — and, occasionally, other sports and topics — as well.
Before that I was a full-time freelancer with bylines in The Wall Street Journal, ESPN the Magazine, Newsday, Sports on Earth, CBS Local, The Journal News, amNewYork, Basketball Times, FoxSports.com, and ICGaels.com, among others.
I’ve won more than a dozen writing awards from the USBWA, Michigan Press Association, and Michigan Associated Press Media Editors, among others.
I live in Ann Arbor, Michigan, with my wife, two daughters, and two dogs.
This website will feature posts that will often include links to my recent work for MLive, comments on articles/books I’ve read, and some original content. Due to the high of volume of content I produce, I won’t be sharing every story I write, and certainly not doing so in real time. For a complete list of my MLive stories, updated automatically and instantly, visit my personal MLive page. You can also follow me on Twitter (@AndrewKahn).
If you have a question, comment, or story idea, I can be reached at andrewjkahn@gmail.com. A picture of me, from the 2023 college football national championship (played on Jan. 8, 2024) is below.
